The Boy and The Rabbit

Mr. Mick and the boy in a rare moment of coexistence
(I am so dead if the boy finds out I posted this)

The boy does not like the rabbit.

He calls the rabbit "defective" and "ugly" and "stupid".

He hates it when the rabbit bugs him while he's trying to study.

He hates it when the rabbit chins his stuff and sheds fur everywhere.

He REALLY hates it when the rabbit gets into his room.

And yet...

When the boy is upset

And he doesn't want to talk about it

He can be found

Sitting in front of the rabbit's cage

With the cage door open

Petting the rabbit's nose

And scratching under the rabbit's chin

While the rabbit licks his hand

And makes it all better.

Sometimes Hef's dad acts like he hates Bandit, but at other moments its "Who's a good girl? Oh Bandit's so pretty" We know they can't be tough guys all the time!

So maybe it's too early to call them a bonded pair, but there are times...

It's your basic love hate relationship.

When we first got Mickey (and up until about a year or so ago), when the boy was having a bad day, he would snuggle with Mick for a bit--we referred to it as "bunnytime". Then he decided he couldn't stand Mick's shedding on him, so snuggling was out and "bunnytime" became sitting on the floor by Mick's cage and petting him. He very rarely does it anymore, so it was a small surprise to find him sitting there and petting Mick. Apparently, he'd tried to pass a slow-moving truck only to have another car suddenly coming at him, and only nearly managed to avoid a collision. It must have rattled him far more than he wanted to talk about until he'd had some bunnytime.

everyone loves a rabbit, even if they want to pretend they don't

A bunnie's softness can soothe a lot of angst. Maybe it's just a guy thing, to hide the need for it? Glad your son only got scared. Passing on those small winding roads is so risky....

Try and try all you want boy, but bunnies are just too cute not to like and they'll chin their way right into your heart.

I suspect when I am not home and DS is alone with the rabbits there is a lot of bunny time happening.....need to set up a bun cam.
